Dare to be part of the Adventure!!

Delaware County Youth Connection (DCYC)
Holcomb Prevention & Education Services
Mission
The concept of DCYC is built upon the basic components of health and
wellness:
● Physical
● Emotional
● Spiritual
● Environmental
● Social
● Intellectual
Through supportive relationships and a myriad of activities, students express their experiences regarding current issues related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, peer and familial relationships, school stressors, and cultural influences.
The mission of DCYC is to educate high school students on healthy lifestyle choices. To successfully achieve this, members are provided with prevention information and alternative activities that are educational, interactive and focus upon the basic components of wellness.
These activities provide a dual purpose: is to serve as an alternative to using alcohol and other drugs, and also to enhance a students overall knowledge of wellness through creative, intellectual, and physical outlets.
Members are also encouraged to provide information and prevention resources
to their peers, schools and/or community organizations.
Putting the Mission into Action:
Activities and Events
Outdoor and indoor rock climbing
Hiking
Canoeing and clean-up on the Brandywine River
Learning yoga or tai chi
Tubing on the Brandywine River
Bowling
Orienteering
White Water Rafting
Spelunking
Other service projects in Delaware County
Under the guidance of the DCYC Coordinators, students have the
opportunity to aid in the development of peer-education prevention
activities that they, in turn, would present to other students. Some of
these activities would include participating in healthy lifestyle discussion
groups, co-facilitating school presentations, and presenting in classrooms
what they learn about the basic components of wellness and prevention.
DCYC members are presented with the opportunity to:
● Facilitate meetings and activities for the group
● Participate in fun, energetic outings, themed events and service projects.
● Volunteer for leadership opportunities within the group.
● Forge dynamic and lasting friendships with other students in Delaware
County
