DCYC: New & Improved!!

About four years ago, the Delaware County Youth Connection (DCYC) began with a focus on monthly alternative activities for youth. While these trips were successful, attendance in the trips was sporadic. In an effort to better serve DCYC's mission, Holcomb is shifting DCYC to a "coalition-style" program. One youth and a DCYC youth leader recently returned from a Youth Leadership & Coalition Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. They came back excited and motivated to work within the community to get other youth interested in DCYC. The conference discussed different ways to engage youth, as well as different activities to implement in your local community. At weekly meetings, youth will discuss daily pressures with peers, listen to guest speakers, and work within the community with other teens that are having personal struggles. DCYC will also, in the future, work to change legislature pertaining to substance use and abuse.

The mission of the Delaware County Youth Connection (DCYC) is to educate high school students on healthy lifestyle choices through alternative activities. To successfully achieve this, members are provided with prevention information and alternative activities that are educational, interactive and focus on the basic components of wellness.

Teachers and Guidance Counselors are encouraged to promote DCYC to youth in grades 8-12 as an outlet to discuss personal issues or questions pertaining to substance abuse, mental health, or violence. DCYC is a terrific activity to include on college applications due to the number of community service activities and trainings, including a youth leadership training that is being held in Harrisburg at the end of October.

DCYC Students are presented with the opportunity to...

● Facilitate meetings and activities for the group
● Participate in fun, energetic outings and themed events
● Volunteer for leadership opportunities within the group
● Earn documented community service/ volunteer hours for time and
effort dedicated to the development of the group
● Forge dynamic lasting friendships with other students in Delaware County.

DCYC meets weekly on Monday nights at
Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems in Media, PA
from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
